What is Yoga ?


This is where a fitness activity like yoga comes in. Yoga, if practiced regularly, can be a great source of physical and emotional sustenance to help us deal and cope with daily stress. The literal meaning of yoga in the Sanskrit language is “to link or to connect”. Through the postures (“asanas”) and the breathing exercises of yoga, one is able to link his or her body and soul to achieve harmony.
Yoga is an ancient practice that dates back to 5000 years ago. There are many different modern approached to yoga today, but the most commonly used is the traditional hatha yoga. Ha pertains to the sun and tha means moon.
In yoga, ha refers to the solar plexus, which is the core area of the body. Tha is associated with the emotions, found at the lumbic region of the brain. Through the breathing exercises and the postures of yoga, we strengthen the solar plexus of our body and balance our emotions. These stretches synchronized with breathing exercises boosts the internal organs to work properly. Furthermore, yoga also addresses the emotional health of an individual, making him or her more calm, peaceful and tolerant.
